Murray Stable formed in 1991 and has developed into one of the most experienced groups at the Scottish Bar. We are able to offer counsel with a wide range of expertise across all areas of civil law. Our ethos is quality combined with knowledge, flexibility, a willingness to deliver effective advice and a passion for the delivery of outstanding oral and written advocacy.

The 40 members – 8 seniors and 32 juniors – provide a blend of expertise and budding talent. A number of our counsel are leaders in their respective areas of practice, several are Standing Junior Counsel to various government departments and some have played a leading role in ground breaking human rights cases. In addition we are home to advocates who are also practising barristers and as such are well placed to offer advice on cross-border issues. Uniquely at the Scottish Bar, the Murray Stable is home to four special interest groups which can provide clients with a quick and easy means of identifying counsel with expertise in the fields of Public & Administrative Law, Family, Employment and Commercial & Insolvency Law. Each group holds conferences and seminars and members are often invited to speak at events hosted by other bodies.

The stable accepts instructions from private clients and legally aided, insurance or union backed clients and from professional bodies who have been awarded direct access rights by the Faculty of Advocates.
