Biography
Piya Muqit was called to the English Bar in October 2001 and completed pupillage with Doughty Street Chambers and Garden Court Chambers under the supervision of John Walsh and Nadine Finch.
Since then she has worked for the Capital Post Conviction Project of Louisiana, New Orleans, Ain o Salish Kendra in Dhaka, Bangladesh and for Refugee and Migrant Justice in London as their Children's Legal Officer. She also undertook a Stage at the Directorate of Human Rights, Council of Europe in Strasbourg. Piya is currently working for the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture as their Children's Law and Policy Officer.
She is specialised in Asylum and Immigration Law, Judicial Review and Child Law and has appeared in both the Inner and Outer House of the Court of Session, the Employment Tribunal and the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal.
She is the Asylum and Immigration Law CPD coordinator for the Murray Stable. This programme is run in conjunction with the Scottish Refugee Council.
