Copyright Licensing

Copyright licensing: an alternative approach for professionals, academics, and institutionsThe thrust of copyright law in the United Kingdom is to protect the rights of the author to royalties by banning unauthorised copying. While this makes good sense to many writers and entertainers, it is less helpful for those authors who wish their work to be as widely distributed as possible, or whose interest is in preserving their moral rights. For many professionals, public institutions, and others there is a need for a licensing model which positively encourages re-distribution while protecting the integrity of the work and giving credit to the author. This audio file (MP3 format; 20 minutes) describes one solution. It is a recording of a talk at the Scottish Institute for Excellence in Social Work Education on 22 June 2007.
