Elaine arrived from Northern Ireland to study in Edinburgh and graduated with an MA Honours in English Literature from Edinburgh University in 1992.

She spent the next two years in the bookselling business, a further three years involved with disability rights followed by what she describes as "the usual brief interlude" at Standard Life and has been a deputy advocates' clerk since 1999.

Elaine now has three children, the oldest in primary two, and is at her desk in the Murray stable from Monday to Wednesday.

Thursdays and Fridays are spent "on the move" walking to and from school, nursery and playgroup.

Elaine reads when she can - during lunch breaks and when the children are asleep!
