After graduating from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen in 1998 with a BA Honours degree in Law and Management, Erica worked for three years in the commercial department of an Edinburgh- based shipping company.

She travelled to Japan for a one-month "job swap" with a colleague from the Tokyo office before setting off on a grand adventure exploring the country.

On her return to Scotland Erica worked for the next two years as the PA to the Director of Corporate Affairs and Management Services at Heriot-Watt University.

She joined Faculty Services as a deputy clerk in the Murray Stable in 2004.
