Families Need Fathers Scotland have invited Janys Scott QC to be the key speaker at their evening talk and discussion on Wednesday 1 June 2011 to mark the group’s work in Glasgow and first year of its office in Scotland.

Janys will talk about how contact with children is presently viewed in the Scottish courts and how it has evolved since the Children (Scotland) Act 1995.

Her recent cases include the successful challenge to the Children (Scotland) Act 1995 on human rights grounds - Principal Reporter v K [2010] UKSC 56, [2011] 1 WLR 18 – (suspension of order allowing unmarried father to attend children’s hearing).  The Supreme Court judgement made a significant addition to that act, and her presentation and the subsequent discussion will explore the scope for further change in this legislation.

Ian Maxwell, FNF national development manager, will give a brief presentation on the work of Families Need Fathers Scotland over the past year.
