The Murray Stable in association with the Scottish Refugee Council held a seminar on Friday 4 June 2010 in Glasgow on representing victims of trafficking.

Nadine Finch, a barrister from Garden Court Chambers, spoke on the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings and its implementation into domestic law, how to identify whether your client has been trafficked or not and how to prepare and present cases in the First Tier and the Upper Tribunal, Asylum and Immigration.

Faisal Saifee, counsel in the only case to date where a trafficking victim was awarded damages in England, discussed the compensation remedies available through CICA, the employment tribunal and the County Court and highlighted the dearth of claims in this area.  There have been no cases so far before the Scottish Courts.

Lorna Drummond, an advocate with the Murray Stable, spoke on the ECHR cases of Siliadin and Rantsev and potential judicial review challenges in the Court of Session.

Conference organiser Piya Muqit, an advocate with the Murray Stable, said "This was an invaluable and timely training session for solicitors and advocates working within the asylum and immigration field. Quality legal support to trafficked victims in Scotland is necessary in ensuring that their rights are protected under the Council of Europe Conventions both the ECHR and the Trafficking Convention, the Refugee Convention and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Murray Stable is very pleased to continue its long association with the Scottish Refugee Council and there are more seminars planned for later in the year."
