Iain graduated with B.Comm degree from Edinburgh University in 1980 and worked for a year in the personnel dept of a manufacturing company.

After studying at Napier for the Institute of Personnel Management course Iain worked for six years as an examiner of writs at the Registers of Scotland.

After a year in the conveyancing dept of Pairman Miller & Murray he became an advocates clerk in 1991 and is now one of the most experienced in the country.

In his limited spare time Iain is a member of the Faculty choir, which has been raising funds for the homeless in Edinburgh for 10 years. He also plays folk guitar - with little ability, he insists.

He enjoys skiing but recently discovered that he can no longer keep up with his two young daughters
