NEWS: Iain Mitchell QC appointed to Bar Council IT Committee

Posted On: 19 April 2011

In a notable first for a Scottish advocate, Murray Stable member Iain Mitchell QC has been co-opted to membership of the IT Committee of the Bar Council of England & Wales.

Mr Mitchell serves as the United Kingdom representative on the IT Committee of the Council of the Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) and in that capacity has been reporting to the Bars and Law Societies of the United Kingdom.

Commenting on his new appointment, he said: "I look forward to contributing my own European and Scottish perspectives to the ongoing work of the Bar Council's IT Committee. As the pace of change continues to accelerate, there are more, and more complex challenges confronting advocates and barristers in relation to their understanding and use of the new technology. I am pleased that I am being given an opportunity to contribute to the work of helping equip my English colleagues to meet those challenges."

In addition to his CCBE role, Mr Mitchell is also the Chairman of the Scottish Society for Computers & Law, and a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists. He is rated by Chambers UK Directory in Band 1 for IT Law.
