The Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 comes into effect at 5am on Tuesday 1 September 2009. It completely replaces the Licensing (Scotland) Act 1976 and represents a radical new structure for the licensing of alcohol sales in Scotland. Built around five statutory licensing objectives, the Act tries to create a more flexible system of licensing designed to reflect the reality of the modern hospitality trade as well as tackling the major health and social problems that the abuse of alcohol can bring.
Based on Scott's substantial experience and involvement in this field, the Guide, which will be updated on a regular basis, hopes to provide practical information on just what the Act means for both public and private sector practitioners, the trade and the public.
